Outside Opinion

Laura and Messiaya met when Messiaya was in middle school and participating in an organization that Laura’s church sponsored. Fast forward six years, and Messiaya found herself pregnant at 19. Laura reached out to Messiaya to tell her about One by One, and the two decided to enter our program together.

Although Messiaya had great family support, she wanted a mentor to give her an “outside” opinion – and to be someone she could talk to freely. Laura filled that role and became another “mom” to Messiaya who says, “Ms. Laura helps me every step of the way.”
Laura is also helping Messiaya grow in her faith. Messiaya says before meeting with Laura, “I was in a circle with God but kept stepping out because I wasn’t committed to anything God was doing. Ms. Laura helped me get back to God’s will.”

We’re excited to report that Messiaya had a beautiful baby girl and that mom and baby are doing well. Mssiya is hoping to return to school; meanwhile, Laura is enjoying mentoring her. She says, “We love being around each other…it feels like we’ve known each other all our lives. I can’t wait to help her through these next few stages!”
