A Friend’s Referral

A friend referred Itzel to us shortly after she became pregnant. She was excited to be a mom, but she and her baby’s father had recently broken up. As she was coming to terms with being a single mom, her family experience a traumatic event which put her in a position where she needed to help provide and care for her mom and two younger siblings (both under age 10). She became depressed and anxious as she tried to figure out how to manage everyone’s needs.

Thanks to our new One by One en Espanol program, we were able to match Itzel with Gislane, a Spanish-speaking mentor. Gislane helped Itzel adjust to the reality of being a single mom, began teaching her good parenting skills, and encouraged her to apply for jobs. Gislane also helped her process her emotions over the trauma in her home and gave her an outlet where she could relax and focus on herself and her baby.

Itzel recently told One by One, “I am so thankful! My mentor is incredible, personable, and friendly. I am blessed to have had One by One Ministries help me and feel much better off.” We’re so happy to have been able to match a Spanish-speaking mentor with this Spanish-speaking mom!
