On to College
One by One matched Shari and Kennedi in 2020. Kennedi had completed our Year 1 program and wanted to continue with our Year 2 program. Her first mentor was unavailable to continue, so Shari stepped in. They navigated the difficulties of meeting during Covid and developed a wonderful friendship.
Kennedi was a teen mom who wanted to continue her education. Covid in some ways made that easier; as schools went online, she was able to be a mom and a student.
Shari was able to share God’s love with Kennedi as she encouraged her in her dual roles of mom and student. Shari said she could tell how smart and determined Kennedi was, and she encouraged her to dream big. She said Kennedi worked so hard to be the best mom to her son – and she also worked hard in the classroom. She graduated from high school ranked #7 in her class in May 2023 and began classes at LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis this fall. She is pursuing a degree in special childhood education. We wish Kennedi the best as she and Shari continue to stay in touch and as Kennedi continues to pursue her education!
