Three Cribs

We’re so thankful to everyone who donated to and served with us at our Mother’s Day Blessing Day! We don’t always have large baby items at this event, but this year we had two baby cribs.

Crib #1 went to a sweet family expecting their first baby. This One by One mom, Ruth, is married, and her husband attended the event with her. When he saw the crib, he was overwhelmed. He said, “This is such a blessing – you guys are angels.” We were so happy to provide a crib for their baby!

Crib #2 was going to Keona, a One by One mom with three kids. She’s one of our moms that MidSouth Hope Garage blessed with a car so she would have reliable transportation to and from work. Unfortunately, her job cut her hours, and she found herself living with a friend while applying for housing through MIFA (Metropolitan Interfaith Association). She was so excited to have a crib for her baby… until she saw LaKitra.

LaKitra is a One by One mom with seven children. When Keona overheard LaKitra talking about her needs, Keona told our staff to give the crib to LaKitra. “She needs it more than I do.” LaKitra was overwhelmed and so thankful. LaKitra did not have a way to transport the crib to her home, and she was so appreciative when some of our volunteers were able to deliver the crib to her later that day.

We only had two cribs to give away at our Blessing Day. Vicki, a One by One mentor who was volunteering t our Blessing Day, witnessed the exchange between Keona and LaKitra. As it turned out, Vicki had a crib at her house that her grandbaby had outgrown, which she then gave to Keona!

It blesses us to see our moms and volunteers so selflessly giving to help other moms in need!
